Just a brief post about the ongoing preparation for the Artweeks open studio - the cylindrical packages that arrived recently were 1)the “giclee” prints of Tate images and 2)window blinds ordered over the internet. For different reasons I did not want to open either package… I haven’t had giclee prints made before, and was quite anxious about the results. After a day of looking at the mailing tube out of the corner of my eye, I finally got brave. Sneaking a peek down the tube, I could see at once that the colors were right, and the print quality was excellent. They look like very good silkscreens - rich inks on heavy rag paper. I couldn’t have been happier. They’re at the framers now. Ever since I’ve been doing art on the computer I’ve regretted the lack of good-quality ouput that I’d want to hang on the wall… this seems to be it. I should put in a little plug for ArtChroma here in the UK, who did the printing from my files (exported images from Flash, via Photoshop).
The window blinds were a concern because I’d done the measuring myself according to the instructions on the website, but you never know… there was a 40% off special that ended on the Monday of Easter weekend, and in a fit of combined frugality and impulsiveness, I ordered three at about 11PM. They arrived in incredibly sturdy packaging, on a day when Geoffrey was working at home and seemingly all my recent online shopping was delivered, requiring him to capture the flying barking dog and run downstairs to answer the door not once but several times. I can say that the one blind I’ve opened is an exact fit. There may however be an issue with the brackets hitting each other at the top because this is a bay window situation. The outcome will have to wait until I finish the interior painting, and may require a “creative solution.”
